Workshop: Directing: From Good to Great with Simon Mallett
What IS the difference between a good director & a great one?
SYNOPSIS: Participants will explore intermediate directing subjects, including: what is an actor's role versus a director's, molding performances to suit your vision, & building a unified team. Newcomers are welcome, but please be aware that this workshop will be set at an intermediate level, and basic concepts will not be the focus.
INSTRUCTOR BIO: Simon is the Founder & Artistic Director of Downstage, and has directed many of the company's previous productions including Bus(t), In the Wake, Good Fences, Bashir Lazhar, My Family and Other Endangered Species, rihannaboi95, Benefit and the World Premiere of Sharon Pollock's Man Out of Joint. Simon has also worked with a variety of other theatre companies including Theatre Calgary where he is the Associate Director of A Christmas Carol, Vertigo Theatre, Lunchbox Theatre and New West Theatre. He is the recipient of The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Emerging Artist Award and has been nominated for the Betty Mitchell Award for Outstanding Direction three times, winning the award in 2014 for Travels With My Aunt at Vertigo Theatre.
