May 4 – 6 (Fri 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm, Sat 12:30 pm - 8:30 pm, Sun 10:00 am - 5:00 pm)

Whether you are well versed in Shakespeare performance or a relative newcomer to working with heightened text, this weekend will expand your understanding, deepen your personal connection to text, inspire your imagination and sharpen your skill set. Each participant will work on a Shakespeare speech of their choosing, exploring it through voice and movement work, actor/audience relationship, individual personalized performance coaching, and an examination of wit and rhetoric within the speech.

While the weekend operates within a set structure, individual text work will be inspired by the specific needs of each unique participant. The number of participants is limited in order to ensure this commitment to individual attention for every participant If you have the desire to be more personally connected in your work, more confident and relaxed with Shakespeare text and more inspired in your creative life - don't miss out on this workshop!

*Iam Coulter is an actor, director, and teaching artist. From 2004 - 2011, she served as the artistic producer of The Shakespeare Company in Calgary, Alberta. Her appetite for deeper understanding and specialized training experience led her to Lenox, Massachusetts' Shakespeare & Company in 2012, where she trains with internationally renowned master teachers. Iam has continued her studies with those masters, absorbing all she can while developing her own personal teaching style. She is recently assisted faculty as a teacher trainee at the January 2018 Month Long Intensive, with a focus on Text and Clown. Iam has performed with Shakespeare & Company, Citadel Theatre, Theatre Calgary, Vertigo Mystery Theatre, Alberta Theatre Projects, Theatre Junction and The Shakespeare Company.

What former students have said about working with Iam Coulter*:

"I think the trademarks of a truly impactful teacher are flexibility and personalization - the ability to tailor an experience for a student regardless of that student's previous experience. Iam Coulter is that, and so much more. Whether you are brand new to Shakespeare, or whether you are well-versed, Iam Coulter will give you an experience personalized entirely for you and what you are looking for. Deeply passionate, infectiously giving, and highly intelligent, the best advice I could give any artist: GO. NOW."

"Iam came alongside me in my own personal life journey making the studio the safest artistic space I've encountered. Through keen observation, intuition and an eagle-eye for application opportunities, Iam literally brought me to my knees in tears and helped me reveal the reason for my anxiety and inability to connect to text. Not only did she help me find the confidence I needed to approach Shakespeare, but she identified habits no acting coach has ever called out in me. I am so grateful for a talent like Iam in our community, making Shakespeare valid, relevant and fun all within the safest space to take risks in community I've ever been in. Thank you Iam!"

“Iam equipped me with skills for understanding, breaking down and expressing all the intricacies of Shakespearean text. ...she equipped us all to be more fully alive and free as human beings. Take her class.”

“I felt safe...to throw myself into the situation with (Iam) guiding and directing me. She has a gentle way of reaching into the deepest parts of me, challenging me to be brave, while also taking me by the hand and coming along for the ride.”
