TITLE: An introduction to the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique with Arlene Irwin

How often when playing a role, has the actor been forced to immediately “feel” the moment, to “pull up” the emotion from their past experiences and life history? This can often be difficult to achieve and maintain, especially when performing in a long production. Using physical gesture and imagination as a rehearsal technique, the Chekhov approach to acting will provide the tools that allow the actor to effortlessly evoke an energy, emotion or atmosphere while combining their psychology, body and voice to create the unique character they are bringing to life. In this introductory workshop, you will leave your analytical self behind in order to explore the realm of creative self and the study of text and character.
“Dry reasoning kills your imagination. The more you probe with your analytical mind, the more silent become your feelings, the weaker your will and the poorer your chance for inspiration” Michael Chekhov: To the Actor.
