HATS OFF TO YOU: Milliner Workshop with CHRISTIE JOHNSON

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Christie will be leading participants through the steps to create their very own 3/4 size Top Hat using classic millinery techniques. We will be building these fascinator-sized hats from scratch using millinery buckram and wire. No cutting will be required - all pieces will be pre-cut, then stored for 72 hours to ensure proper breathing of materials for safety. No experience is required, except the ability to thread a needle! This class will consist of 3, in person 2 hour sessions. Covid-safe protocols and distancing will be followed. Masks required.

WHAT TO BRING: A basic sewing kit that includes scissors, pins, needles and maybe a thimble.

INSTRUCTOR: You may have seen Christie Johnson dressed in full Steampunk attire at one of Morpheus Theatre's annual Gilbert & Sullivan Operettas. She first became a Morpheus Theatre enthusiast after attending these spring productions with the Steampunk Assemblage starting in 2013, and has worked her way from Millinery Specialist to Costume Assistant and more recently, Costume Designer for several of Morpheus' shows. Christie has a passion for Costume and Clothing History, especially authentic building styles, with a specialty in Classic Millinery techniques. In 20 years of honing her craft she has made headwear from many eras, including Biblical, Medieval, Victorian, 60's and many more for reenactment and theatrical productions.
