× BUILDING STAGE PRESENCE & FIGHTING AUDITION ANXIETY
with TAYLOR MATHESON

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
What if you forget the words? What if you’re not feeling top of your game? What if you’re just plain nervous?

Audition and performance nerves are normal, but they don’t have to keep you from enjoying your time on stage.

Join Taylor Matheson (she/her) for this 4-hour workshop where we’ll dive into what stage presence actually means, the psychology of stress, and the beliefs we hold about ourselves. Then together, we’ll practise breaking through the habits and beliefs and actions that hold us back.

Taylor has had a lot of practise trying, failing, succeeding, and learning on many different stages in front of many different people. She looks forward to sharing her experiences, wisdom, tips and tricks with you.

Please bring a song (with accompaniment on your phone) or a monologue that you’d bring for an audition. If you don’t have one ready, you can sing happy birthday or O Canada, or recite a favourite poem.

This workshop will be a safe space where all humans of any gender, race, sexuality, age, or ability will be joyfully supported and welcomed.

INSTRUCTOR BIO:
Taylor Matheson (she/her) has worked, lived, and performed across Canada.

What this really means is that she grew up here in Calgary, got her B. Music from the University of Lethbridge (05), then her M. Music from the University of Western Ontario (07), then she kept finding ways to love music.

She’s taught privately, in-studio, and through UWO’s continuing education department. She’s performed recitals with piano and galas with symphonies (Sudbury symphony orchestra) one act operas in fringe festivals (old maid and the thief, the impresario), community theatre productions (London Ontario and Calgary), and main stage operas in the chorus (Pacific Opera Victoria with Orchestra London (Ontario), Opera Hamilton, Calgary Opera). She’s also performed with Cowtown Opera in bars, restaurants, churches, farmers markets, office building lobbies, and even right on Stephen Ave.

Taylor especially loves working with creative people to help them find their own way to love music and theatre, and to express themselves with confidence.
