COURSE DESCRIPTION:
During this workshop participants will explore useful techniques to analyse and interpret dramatic text, as well as methods for character development. During the first session, we will explore; 5 act structure, Rudolph Laban, Patsy Rodenburg, Utah Hagen, demographic mapping, objective and super objective, character psyche and creating a back story, verbing and tactics, event mapping, obstacles, conflicts, unit breakdown and more.

During the second session, each duo will be coached on the scene of their choosing and implement the strategies discussed during the first day.

INSTRUCTOR BIO:
Elizabeth Stepkowski Tarhan is a stage director, award winning actor, singer, and educator. Elizabeth has directed for Calgary Opera, The Shakespeare Company, The Guild Hall, Seadreamer, Urban Stories/Drama on a Dime, Destiny Theatre, the Soulocentric Festival, Storybook Theatre and Stage West, as well as new works at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. Elizabeth is an instructor of Musical Theatre at Rosebud School of the Arts and teaches acting and her vocal methodology internationally. Elizabeth has appeared on stages across much of Canada as well as in the US, Mexico and Scotland. She is collaborating on several new works and adaptations in various stages of development.

REQUIRED MATERIALS:
A preselected and memorized scene. The full text of the play. A means to record information and make notes. Water and comfortable clothing.
